Page 1: Are you looking for alternatives to plastic mulch?
If you are a grower keen to explore alternative mulches that can help improve and reduce your use of plastic, there will be a meeting for a new Innovative Farmers field lab.
Plastic films are widely used in field vegetable production as an effective weed control, although there is growing concern about their impact, in terms of energy consumed in their production, waste/disposal and effect on the soil when they degrade. Building on an EU funded project (Organic-PLUS) at Coventry University's Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience (CAWR), Innovative Farmers is inviting growers who would like to join a field lab to assess the effectiveness of alternative biodegradable mulches. Working with researchers at CAWR, growers will design a practical on-farm trial to test a number of different approaches and materials.
The event will take place on Thursday 26th September at Ryton Organic Gardens near Coventry (CV8 3LG), beginning at 10am and will include presentations, discussions, a light lunch and field tour, concluding by mid-afternoon. For further information, please email email@example.com
