“Exploring the links between exposure to nature, psychological flexibility, pain perception and wellbeing”
 

What is the purpose of this research?
The purpose of the research is to explore the links between exposure to nature, psychological flexibility, pain perception and wellbeing.   Some research suggests that exposure and/or connectedness to nature may have some benefit to how we manage emotions and our wellbeing. However, there is limited research regarding the impact of exposure to nature and pain perception. The research was granted ethical approval by Coventry University’s Research Ethics Committee [P136481].

Do you have to take part?
No – it is entirely up to you. Your participation in the survey is entirely voluntary, and you can opt out at any stage by closing and exiting the browser. You are free to withdraw your questionnaire responses from the project data set at any time until the data are fully anonymized in our records on 1st September 2022. In order to withdraw your data (once the survey is competed), you will need to email the researcher with a unique identifier code or provide the same email address you may have provided in the survey. You have the opportunity to opt-in to a prize raffle draw (£50 [or equivalent] in another currency)  If you opt to do this you will be asked to provide an email address in order to email you should you win the prize

What will happen if I decide to take part?
If you are happy to take part, please answer the following questions relating to engagement with nature, connectedness with nature, how you manage your emotions and pain, your wellbeing, and how well you can imagine/fantasize.  The survey should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Why have you been invited to take part?
You have been invited to participate in this research because you are aged 18+ and have an interest in this topic area.

What are the benefits and potential risks and benefits in taking part?
Your answers will help us gain a greater understanding of the links between exposure to nature and pain (in particular), and the role of psychological flexibility (how we manage emotions) is involved in this process. There are no significant risks associated with taking part in this study,  However, should you experience any emotional distress as a result of taking part in this study, you retain the right to close the browser and stop the study.  We also provide some links in the debrief sheet at the end of the study should you wish to seek further information or support.  If you were to experience distress, then you may consider speaking to your local healthcare provider.

What will happen to the results of the research?
Your answers will be treated confidentially and the information you provide will be kept anonymous in any research outputs/publications

Who will have access to the information?

Your data will only be accessed by the researcher/research team.

 

Where will the information be stored and how long will it be kept for?

Your data will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.  Your data will be held securely on the CU OneDrive and will only be viewed by the researcher/research team.  All data will be deleted by 1st September 2025.
